I’ve been saying FOREVER that I want to burn some sage to get rid of negativity in my apartment (which I don’t think there is ) and work space. In addition, to I think the cleansing part of it will help with my anxiety (even though since my discovery of Doodlejump…I haven’t had a panic attack once.). Maybe when the spring rolls around, I’ll do it.Smudging ceremonies are conducted to cleanse spaces of negativity; they symbolize new beginnings and heightened awareness. According to the Quest Bookshop newsletter, “The ritual of smudging can be defined as ‘spiritual house cleaning.’ The smoke attaches itself to negative energy. As the smoke clears, it takes the negative energy with it, releasing it to regenerate into something more positive.”
HOW TO CONDUCT A SMUDGING CEREMONY:
1. Light the “smudge stick” (preferably a bundle of white sage, or try this one, which adds lavender for a calming effect), and then gently wave it to extinguish.
2. If the goal is the cleansing of oneself, gather the smoke with your hands and draw it towards your body, paying special attention to areas of stress or imbalance.
3. If the goal is the cleansing of a space, direct the smoke towards the intended areas by blowing or gently fanning. Start in the doorway, and work around your home in a clockwise direction, paying particular attention to corners, the tops of walls, door frames, and window frames.
Catching up
I was away for 5 days. 2 days of traveling to the destination. 3 days at the destination. Now I have 153 work emails, 80 personal and millions of pages of blogs to catch up on.
I want to go back on vacation.
After staying indoors for most of the day, trying to ignore the blizzardy weather conditions, my BF and I finally decided to brave the cold and snow, and venture outdoors to grab some dinner. We knew we wanted an Irish pub with a cozy atmosphere, but were direction-less…..There aren’t too many cozy Irish pubs in the LES. Lo and behold, we accidentally stumbled upon the perfect place for a snowy day….Donnybrook!!!
A dark wood bar with a rolling ladder, large rustic wooden tables, paisley wallpaper, and a large lamppost labeled WC (for Water Closet). They have Guinness and Smithwick’s on tap, hand-cut frency fries with sea salt, vinegar and a side of curry, and the most delicious Shepard’s Pie I’ve ever eaten.
An absolute must if you crave Irish cuisine. You can’t go wrong at Donnybrook!
I shall be rocking my Alexander McQueen blouse tomorrow as my way of paying tribute.RIP Mr. McQueen. We will miss you and your amazing passion and creativity.
What I did on my snow day!
- frantically make phone calls/texts to cancel work meetings
- look out the window, can kind of see the Manhattan Bridge and East River
- check work email while watching the weather on tv obsessively
- get dressed because slim chance of having to go work for meeting, but cancelled last minute
- look out the window, can vaguely see the Manhattan Bridge and East River
- go back to bed
- look out the window and all I see is white
- watch a marathon of ‘The Wire’
- check my work email
- drink some red wine
- snuggle with boyfriend
- brave the snow for some beers and dinner
Wheeeee!!! My first snow day as an adult!!
I stumbled upon these guys while they were playing on the subway platform after I attended a show. In most cases, I usually pass subway performers because they generally aren’t very good. But something made me stop with these guys…perhaps it was their unusual arrangement (trumpet, tuba, snare drum), maybe it was the bull horn the lead singer was using….but I stopped at listened for a good 15 minutes. They were awesome!!! I dropped my business card in their trumpet case and figured I would never hear from them again.
They wound up playing the Mercury Lounge on Saturday night, which I braved the frigid tundra of Grand Street to attend. And they were great!!!
If you get a chance to see the, please go because they are super entertaining!
